Scammer Posing As Bristol Police Sergeant, Department Warns
According to police, the scammer is calling people and pretending to be a Bristol police sergeant, detective, or officer.
BRISTOL, RI — Bristol police warned residents of a recent phone scam, where a caller is posing as a police officer.
According to police, the scammer is calling people and pretending to be a Bristol police sergeant, detective, or officer. The scammer then claims they have a warrant for the victim's arrest, or they have unpaid fines.
"Please be aware that the Bristol police, or any legitimate police agency, will never ask you for money over the phone," Bristol police said in a Facebook post. "We will never request that you deposit money into a Bitcoin ATM, purchase gift cards for payment, or wire us any money."
