Scammers Posing As Bristol Police Officers On Phone To Steal Money: PD
Police say the scammers are spoofing the official Bristol police phone number (401-253-6900) to make their calls seem legitimate.
BRISTOL, RI — Bristol police have asked the public to be on the lookout for scammers pretending to be with the town's police department to steal money.
According to police, scammers have recently targeted Bristol residents and called them pretending to be from the Bristol Police Department. They're even spoofing the official Bristol police phone number (401-253-6900) to make it seem legitimate, police said.
"Remember, the real Bristol PD would NEVER reach out to you over the phone and threaten you with a warrant for not giving out personal info, credit card details, or payments," Bristol police said in a Facebook post last week.
