Zone Change for Bristol Industrial Park Gets Hearing Tonight

Mosaico Business and Community Development Corporation wants to market the manufacturing complex to a different mix of businesses.

A public informational meeting on a request to change the zoning for the Bristol Industrial Park takes place today in Town Hall.

The informational session is part of a special meeting of the Bristol Planning Board. It starts at 7 pm in the Town Hall.Ā

The Mosaico Business and Community Development Corporation, one of the owners of the industrial park, wants to ā€œmarket to a different mixā€ of potential tenants, said Community Development Director Diane Williamson.

The industrial park is zoned only for manufacturing right now. Mosaico wants to change the zoning to ā€œrehab land development projectā€ (Rehab LDP), according to the application for a zoning change.Ā

The industrial park would remain predominantly manufacturing, Williamson said. But there are potential tenants that don’t fit under that umbrella.Ā

For instance, a fitness company and a restaurant have expressed interest in moving into the industrial park, Williamson said.

The industrial park sits onĀ 14 acres that was once the Kaiser Mill. It now includesĀ boat builders, a sign maker, furniture and window restorers, a welding shop, and a variety of other manufacturers, including the I. Shalom Company and Tri-Mack Plastics.

But restaurants and other service firmsĀ cannot operate in a manufacturing zone. They could be developed as part of a Rehab LDP zone.Ā

The Bristol Town Council will hear the same request with the Planning Board’s recommendation at its next meeting. It has the final say on a zone change.
