4 RI Beaches Reopen, 1 Closes To Swimming For High Bacteria Levels

RIDOH officials said they will continue to monitor and review beach water quality regularly to ensure safe bathing throughout summer.

COVENTRY, RI — Four Rhode Island beached reopened Thursday after being closed due to high levels of bacteria, while another closed for the same reason, the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) said.

RIDOH officials said high bacteria levels made swimming unsafe and the closures, but bacteria levels have since returned to normal at Sandy Point Beach in Portsmouth, Warren Town Beach in Warren, Hope Community Service Pond in Scituate, and Briar Point Beach in Coventry. Bacteria levels worsened at Conimicut Point Beach in Warwick, causing the closure for swimming.

RIDOH officials said they will continue to monitor and review beach water quality regularly to ensure safe bathing throughout summer.
