90-Year-Old Coventry Resident Receives Victory Medal for WWII Service

A 90-year-old WWII veteran from Coventry was recently honored for her years of service.

Ms. Euphemia Ellen Fagan Nichols served in the U.S. Navy Reserve as a Storekeeper (Disbursing Second Class) from 1942 to 1945. Included in her duties were the ordering, receiving, inspecting, shipping and issuing of Navy supplies as well as the preparation and maintenance of ship records, files, forms and reports.

On Feb. 1, 2013, Senator Jack Reed presented the World War II Victory Medal to Ms. Nichols at his office in Cranston.

The attention to orders reads: “The following award is announced ‘The World War II Victory Medal’ is awarded to Euphemia Ellen Fagan Nichols who distinguished herself during World War II. Ms. Nichols’ dedication to duty was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Navy and the United States of America.”

In addition to the World War II Victory Medal, Ms. Nichols received the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the Navy Discharge Button and the Honorable Service Lapel Pin.
