Alan Shawn Feinstein Visits Coventry Junior Scholars

Alan Shawn Feinstein, one of Rhode Island's most notable philanthropists, made stops at Coventry elementary schools this week to recognize students for their good deeds and deliver Feinstein Junior Scholar cards. 

During his Tuesday morning visit to Blackrock Elementary School, Feinstein congratulated the students for their holiday canned good drive and $1 Slipper Day that will provide nonperishable food and fresh produce to the Coventry Food Bank and its 'Tis the Season campaign. Blackrock faculty members will also be participating in the Adopt-A-Family program this year.

"You spearhead our campaign to fight hunger and for all the good deeds you do, you deserve a big reward," said Feinstein to students during the assembly.

He went on to note the Feinstein Junior Scholar Academies that have been launched in Kenya and Honduras and how the students there recognize Rhode Island and Massachusetts Junior Scholars for their good deeds.

"Around the world there are boys and girls who want to be like you because of what you do," he said. "They call you their heroes, that's what you are to them."

Feinstein gave to each student a Good Deed Journal and Feinstein Junior Scholar Card good for free admission to the Bank of America Skating Rink and Roger Williams Park Botanical Garden for the student and an adult, as well as free rides, popcorn, face painting and a pin at the park's Carousel Village. Cardholders are also entitled to one month of free Karate lessons and one-time free admission to the Providence Children's Museum, Mystic Aquarium and Blackstone River Tour.

On behalf of Blackrock School, Principal Alicia Castle was also presented with a check for $5,000.

"Every time you do a good deed for someone, you make the world a better place," said Feinstein as he concluded his visit. "You have the power to put smiles on other people's faces and that's a power you don't want to waste."

Mr. Feinstein's trip to Coventry was just one of many being made this year as he visits all 138 Feinstein Leadership Schools in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
