Beef Jerky Recalled In RI Over Possible Listeria Contamination
The recall affects three different products produced on Aug. 25 and shipped nationwide.

RHODE ISLAND — A Tennessee-based food company is recalling nearly 500 pounds of beef jerky products shipped nationwide, including in Rhode Island, due to possible Listeria contamination, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced this week.
The recall affects three different products produced by Magnolia Provision Company Inc. on Aug. 25, according to the notice.
The contamination was discovered when the company received confirmation from their third-party lab that a sample tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes.

The following products are included in the recall:
- 2-oz. packages of “BEEF JERKY EXPERIENCE CHOP HOUSE STYLE PRIME RIB FLAVORED BEEF JERKY” with “EXP 8/25/23” displayed on the back of the package.
- 8-oz. packages of “BEEF JERKY EXPERIENCE CHOP HOUSE STYLE PRIME RIB FLAVORED BEEF JERKY” with “EXP 8/25/23” displayed on the back of the package.
- 16-oz. packages of “BEEF JERKY EXPERIENCE CHOP HOUSE STYLE PRIME RIB FLAVORED BEEF JERKY” with “EXP 8/25/23” displayed on the back of the package.
The affected products also bear the establishment number "EST. 8091" inside the USDA mark of inspection. View photos of the product labels.

The items were shipped to retail locations nationwide, according to the notice. No illnesses or adverse reactions have been reported to date.
Eating food contaminated with Listeria can cause listeriosis, a serious infection that primarily affects older adults, people with weakened immune systems, pregnant women and their newborns. Symptoms include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions. Symptoms are sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal problems.
