Coventry Apartment Fire Hospitalizes 3 People

Most residents at the Glenwood Park Apartments in Coventry escaped safely, but crews needed to rescue two people​, fire officials say.

COVENTRY, RI — Three people were taken to the hospital after an apartment caught fire in Coventry on Monday night, according to fire officials.

Crews were called to the fire at the Glenwood Park Apartments on Tiogue Avenue around 9:30 p.m. Firefighters found heavy flames coming from the first floor.

Coventry Fire Chief Frank Brown told WPRI 12 most residents escaped safely, but firefighters needed to rescue two people. He also said the three residents who were taken to the hospital were treated for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
