Coventry Launches Gift Card Program To Help Local Businesses
The card is available for purchase and works like any other cash gift card, except it's accepted by Coventry businesses only.
COVENTRY, RI — Coventry has created a new way residents can support local businesses this holiday season.
The Coventry Economic Development Commission partnered with Giverrang on its community gift card program, through Mastercard, to promote a "shop local" program for the holiday season. While Giverrang’s community programs are live in 40 cities across the U.S., this is the first to launch in Rhode Island, town officials said.
The community gift card is called Buy Local Coventry. The card works like any other cash gift card you would purchase from Mastercard with a small activation fee — and it is specifically available for use with businesses in Coventry. The first 200 cards purchased will have their activation fee waived by the commission.

"The Buy Local Coventry gift card will give people a gift of choice," Commission member David Dadekien said, who owns Eat Drink RI. "They only have to buy one gift card, and it will work at businesses in the town of Coventry, rather than having to pick and choose. It’s an easy way to support local businesses, and it allows businesses to gain new customers."
Customers can purchase the gift cards by visiting Giverrang's website.
