COVENTRY, RI — A Coventry woman won $50,000 on a Powerball ticket she bought at a local Cumberland Farms store, Rhode Island Lottery officials said Thursday.

The prize came from Saturday's Powerball drawing, and the winning ticket was bought at the Cumberland Farms at 785 Tiogue Ave. in Coventry.

Lottery officials said the woman realized she won after reading a Patch story about the unclaimed lottery prize and said, "I bought my ticket from there."

She then had her son run out to the car to get the ticket from her glove compartment. They both kept checking the numbers to be sure she was the winner. Lottery officials said she called her mother right away, and they both cried.

The winner shared that her mother has helped her and her children in the past, and could use the money now, so she will give most of the winnings to her.
