Do RI Parents Interfere Too Much in Student Sports?

Holly Misto, a successful Westerly High School coach, recently resigned, saying parents interfered too much with the team.

By all accounts, Holly Misto was an extremely successful coach for the Westerly High School girls basketball squad.

She led the small school to a Division 2 championship and nearly won another one when the team was bumped up to Division 1. She was also nominated for a USA Today coaching award.

Misto, however, recently resigned, saying she could no longer coach the team because several parents interfered too much.

"I reached a point where I could no longer effectively coach my team in the context of significant interference from several parents who misunderstand the meaning of team," Misto wrote in a letter published in the Westerly Sun.

The incident brings up the question: Do parents interfere too much in their children's school sports?
