Don't Drink Western Coventry Elementary School Water System Water: State
The level of manganese in the distribution system was higher than the health advisory limit, according to the Department of Health.
COVENTRY, RI — The Western Coventry Elementary School public water system issued a do not drink notice for consumers due to the level of manganese in the distribution system exceeding the health advisory limit, the Rhode Island Department of Health said.
"Manganese is a naturally occurring element found in rocks, soil, water, and air," the department said in a media release.
"It is also commonly found in nuts, legumes, seeds, grains, green leafy vegetables, and drinking water," the release said. "Manganese is an essential nutrient."

A sample collected Friday was higher than the health advisory limit, according to the release.
The notice will remain in effect until consistent safe manganese levels returns and the department approves that it be lifted, the release said.
