Dream On

Dreaming has got people questioning … What exactly are dreams?

By Amanda Landry, CHS Senior

Did you know that the human brain cannot physically create any human face on its own? Every face that appears in your dreams has crossed your path at some point in time. Whether you walked by them on a busy city street, or sat next to them in high school English class, your brain will recycle this information in your dreams.

The mysterious phenomenon of dreaming has struck people’s interests for many years. These spontaneous but always occurring dreams have people questioning - why do we dream? Dreams are said to be your subconscious speaking to you. Although these messages can be obvious at times, some can be more complex, or deep, so to say. These “deeper” dreams shine light upon repressed fears or desires that the dreamer has pushed into the back of their mind at some point in their life. If analyzed correctly, dreams very well could be the solution to your problems.

Like normal dreams, reoccurring dreams target your inner most problems, whether you are aware that it is a problem or not. A reoccurring dream is a dream that can occur every year, every month, every week, or in the worst case, every night. This frequent dream is important.

Dreams may be an answer to your problems, but what happens when your dreams overwhelm you so much that you no longer find them helpful, but just the opposite? Many individuals experience this in the form of sleep paralysis.

When a person suffers from the demonic state of sleep paralysis, they awaken abruptly in the night and are essentially paralyzed. While laying there, patients have reported feeling an unbearable weight upon their chest - a weight so great that it sometimes hinders breathing. People have also reported an evil demon-like figure perching on top of them. Unable to move a muscle, they're helpless, vulnerable, and most of all, frightened to no end.

Remember to pay close attention to your dreams, as they may tell you more about yourself than you already knew.
