Five Things You Need To Know Today, June 6

Today is Thursday, June 6, 2013 and here are five things you should know about.

 

It's a pretty quiet day for activities in Coventry, so here are several upcoming events to make note of:

Parks & Recreation Summer Camp: School is almost out, which means that summer vacation is close by! Registration for Coventry Parks & Recreation 2013 Summer Playground Camp Program (July 1-August 16) begins on Saturday, June 8 from 8-11 a.m. in the Community Center's upstairs main hall. Registration will resume June 10 during business hours. Parents who plan on sending their child to camp should be sure to bring their child's current report card (for camp divisions) and custodial parent's proof of residency (license, utility bill, mortgage statement, etc.). If the child's last name differs from the parent registering them, a birth certificate is required. Resident registration fee is $225 per child and can be paid by cash or check only. Community Garden Golf Tourney: Today is the registration deadline to play or sponsor a tee at the Coventry Community Garden's Annual Charity Golf Tournament scheduled for June 15 at Coventry Pines Golf Course (1065 Harkney Hill Rd.). On the morning of the event, registration will take place from 8:15-9 a.m. with a tee time of 9:00. Registration is $40 per person, tee sponsorship is $50. Proceeds will benefit the garden that provides food to local families in need. Registration form is attached to this article and ready to print. 

"Good Times Roll" at the Elks: The Coventry-West Greenwich Elks Lodge (42 Nooseneck Hill Rd., West Greenwich), will hold an Oldies Dance Party and Dinner, "Let the Good Times Roll" at 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 8. Menu includes hamburgers, hot dogs, french fries, baked beans, salad, pasta salad and dessert. Guests are invited to wear they best poodle skirt or oldies outfit and dance the night away with Lou Paz. Tickets are $15 per person and are available by calling the Lodge at 397-3700 or Beverly at 943-6507. Proceeds benefit Elks charities.

CLL Comedy Night: Tickets are now available for Coventry Little League's Comedy Night scheduled for 8:30 p.m. on Friday, June 7 at the Coventry-West Greenwich Elks Lodge (42 Nooseneck Hill Rd., WG), doors open at 7:30. The show will feature Ace Aceto and Wild Bill Simas, raffles and door prizes. Tickets are $15 each and can be purchased with by check (to Coventry Little League) or cash. To reserve tickets, contact Becky Simon at sponsorship@coventrylittleleague.com.

Plan Ahead - Salon Serenity Fundraiser: Looking to get your hair and nails done while support a great cause? From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 9, Salon Serenity (577 Tiogue Ave.) will host a Cut-a-Thon/Mini Manicure fundraiser, of which 100% of proceeds will benefit the Arctic Mission Advocacy for the Homeless and Helping Hands Kitchen that feeds those in need.
