Letter: School Safety and Security
The following letter was sent out to the parents of Coventry students on Thursday afternoon by Superintendent Dr. Michael Almeida. An additional report from the Coventry Police Department is forthcoming.
Parents/Guardians,
The School Safety & Security Committee met today. Members include representatives from the School Department, Police Department, Town Council, and School Committee.
The Committee will be assessing our practices, policies, procedures and school structures. A needs assessment will be completed and an action plan developed and implemented.
While the Committee works diligently on this task, Gary Cote, Town Council President, has authorized a police officer at each school beginning tomorrow.
Our commitment to safety is our highest priority.
Once the plan is developed, it will be communicated as appropriate.
