A local student has just completed an internship that gave him  a first-hand look at the federal government in action.

In the attached photo, Congressman Jim Langevin meets with Coventry resident Conor O’Brien, who participated in Langevin’s Rhode Island District Office internship program over the fall semester. O’Brien is a freshman at Rhode Island College, where he plans to major in political science.

His interest in politics extends beyond the classroom, having previously volunteered for the Lisa Tomasso campaign for State Representative and the Kathy Patenaude campaign for School Committee. O’Brien also volunteered with the Youth Leadership Bureau of the Rhode Island Department of Health and for the Autism Project of Rhode Island. In the District Office, interns experience a variety of tasks, including answering phone calls, drafting constituent correspondence and supporting staff members on various projects.
