RI Man Sentenced After Being Caught With Child Porn Again Following Prison Release
Prosecutors say Brian Murphy, 54, logged in to a North Scituate business' Wi-Fi to access child pornography.
NORTH SCITUATE, RI — A Rhode Island man, who was previously convicted and served time for possessing and distributing child pornography, was sentenced to serve another 10 years in prison after being caught with child pornography again, U.S. Attorney Zachary Cunha said Wednesday.
In May 2009, Brian Murphy, 54, of North Scituate, was convicted of possessing and distributing child pornography. He had since been released from prison and was serving probation when he was caught with child pornography a second time, federal prosecutors said.
Prosecutors said the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in April 2022 identified an IP address at a business located on the first floor of a multifamily building in North Scituate for having accessed child pornography. Further investigation revealed Murphy, a resident of the building, used the business' Wi-Fi to access child pornography, according to prosecutors.

Murphy later admitted to a federal judge he used the Wi-Fi service and possessed child pornography. He was sentenced Tuesday by U.S. District Court Judge William Smith. Following his prison sentence, Murphy must serve 10 years of probation.
