School Committee Recognizes Coach of the Year, Volleyball Champs

The following is a summary of agenda item decisions from the Dec. 10 meeting of the Coventry School Committee.

 

During Monday night's School Committee meeting held at Washington Oak Elementary School, members recognized Coventry High School's Leo Bush as Interscholastic League Girls' Volleyball Coach of the Year.

Bush's student athletes, the Coventry High School Girls' Volleyball Team, were honored for winning their second consecutive State Championship when they beat the East Providence Townies on Nov. 10 at URI's Keaney Gym.

Representative Lisa Tomasso presented each member of the team with a citation from the State, congratulating them for their efforts.

Technology Donation Policy - Second Reading

Committee members approved the Second Reading of the School Department's Technology Donation Policy

The policy pertains to the donation of used technology, including computers, monitors, printers, etc., that may be used in schools throughout the district. It summarizes the need for donations that are up to current technology standards, in good working order and fully equipped as to not cost the district extensive money for missing parts, repairs or upgrades. Equipment placement is also addressed, in that donations will be placed within the district based on its technology plan by the technology director. Appointment

The Committee approved the appointment of C. Quentin Jones to the position of Director of Athletic and Attendance for Administration, effective Jan. 2, 2013.

Three-Year Budget Projection

Committee members approved Superintendent Michael Almeida's presentation of the School Department's three-year projection of expenses for 2013-2016. Click here for coverage of the same presentation at the Dec. 10 Town Council meeting.

The next School Committee meeting will take place at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan, 8, 2013 at Blackrock Elementary School.
