Trooper Brian J. McGuire Selected as RI Army National Guard Soldier of the Year

Colonel Steven G. O’Donnell, Superintendent, of the Rhode Island State Police and Commissioner of Public Safety, announces that Coventry resident, Trooper Brian J. McGuire has been selected as the “2012 Rhode Island Army National Guard Soldier of the Year.”

Trooper McGuire’s name was submitted for nomination by his Rhode Island Army National Guard Non-Commissioned Officer, Sergeant Buehner. The selection process consisted of a physical fitness test, a 10K road march, and an oral board interview.  Enlisted men and women and non-NCOs were considered for this award, and a total of six soldiers competed.

Trooper Brian McGuire competed in the 10K road march and finished first.  He then participated in the oral board interview, with a panel consisting of a First Sergeant and two Sergeants Major.  This panel evaluated Trooper McGuire's performance and selected him as the “2012 Rhode Island Army National Guard Soldier of the Year.”

As a result of being selected as the winner of the competition, Trooper McGuire was invited to attend the New England Patriots game on Monday, Dec. 10, 2012 and was recognized at that time for his achievement.

Colonel O’Donnell stated, “Our troopers consistently excel in their achievements, and Trooper Brian McGuire is a credit to both the Rhode Island State Police and the Rhode Island Army National Guard.”

Major General Kevin R. McBride, The Adjutant General stated, “Brian McGuire was selected for his outstanding professionalism as a soldier in every aspect, including his military bearing and skill requirements.”
