Veteran Fire Chief Tapped to Lead CCFD

Peter J. Lamb has served as a fire chief, director of a fire academy and an emergency management director.

The Central Coventry Fire District is poised to be led by a new fire chief with years of experience in fire district leadership roles.

Peter J. Lamb is all but assured appointment to the job at the fire district’s monthly meeting on Thursday night at the Town Hall annex. The district’s board of directors announced Monday that they will bring forward Lamb’s appointment in a request for ratification.

Lamb will replace outgoing interim Fire Chief Shawn Murray, who led the fire district on a temporary basis during a period of extreme turmoil and uncertainty as the district lumbered through bankruptcy under the control of a state-appointed receiver.

The district is now out of bankruptcy and residents seeking assurance that the district will be properly run should take some comfort in Lamb’s qualifications

Fire District President Fred Gralinksi said that it was “important to assure that the fire district continued the necessary leadership” and Lamb’s extensive qualifications “will assist the district in moving forward.”

Lamb served as fire chief in North Attleboro, Mass., for eight years and led the Massachusetts Fire Academy as director for six years. He also served as Tiverton’s fire chief and emergency management director for 10 years.

In addition, Lamb has been tapped as an expert, offering consulting services on fire service matters and for a company that specializes in mapping software for public safety and community response planning. He’s written text books, articles for fire trade publications and has been a seminar speaker at the National Training Conference Fire House Expo.

“I am looking forward to working with the dedicated and professional firefighters and officers of the Central Coventry Fire District,” Lamb said. “Early in my career I was a Firefighter in the Harris Fire District which is now part of the Central Coventry Fire District.”

Voters approved a new district budget in October, setting the stage for some stability and optimism for the district.
