The hearing may be rescheduled, police said.

COVENTRY, RI — The vicious dog hearing set for Thursday morning has been cancelled, Coventry police said. But according to police Lt. Matthew Blair, the situation has not been resolved. If the hearing is rescheduled, police will announce the new date and time.

The hearing was called after a woman complained a dog bit her on Hollywood Avenue. Police took the dog, named Duke, into custody. The dog, a Fila Brasilerio or Brazilian mastiff, belongs to Lucille Meehan, of Coventry. The hearing was to be conducted by the Coventry police and the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
