The billiard ball thief was let off the hook when he bought a replacement set for the East Greenwich bar, police said.
EAST GREENWICH, RI — The billiard ball thief was let off the hook when he bought a replacement set for the East Greenwich bar, police said.
The law was alerted to the theft in the first hour of Christmas Eve, according to an East Greenwich Police Department report.

The owner of the Greenwich Hotel told an officer "she noticed the billiard balls were missing from the billiard table, reviewed her camera footage and discovered her billiard balls had been stolen by a man she said was about 5-foot-6 and wearing a "puffer sweater, red shirt and jeans," the report said.

A friend of the man in the puffer sweater, red shirt and jeans who was still at the Greenwich Hotel gave his name to the officer, according to the report.
The thief was then called and told that if he returned the billiard balls or bought the owner a new set, she would not press charges, the report said.

The man then arrived at the Greenwich Hotel "promptly and purchased a new set of billiard balls for $110.17 online," according to the report.

The report said the police obtained photographs of the man taking the balls from the billiard table and hiding them in the sleeves of his red shirt, puffer sweater, or both.
