Winter Anglers Rejoice: State Stocking Coventry Pond With Fish

Rainbow trout, lake trout and Sebago Atlantic salmon will be stocked at Carbuncle Pond in Coventry.

COVENTRY, RI — If winter doesn't mean the end of fishing season for you, you're in luck.

The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) will stock ten lakes and ponds in the Ocean State with rainbow trout, Sebago Atlantic salmon and new this year, lake trout. DEM officials said fish stocking will begin Monday and last through Jan. 17. — including at Carbuncle Pond in Coventry. Carbuncle Pond will get rainbow trout, lake trout and Sebago salmon.

  • Barber Pond, South Kingstown: trout and salmon
  • Round Top Ponds, Burrillville: trout and salmon
  • Carolina Trout Pond, Richmond: trout and salmon
  • Meadow Brook Pond, Richmond: trout and salmon
  • Melville Ponds, Portsmouth: trout and salmon
  • Silver Spring Lake, North Kingstown: trout and salmon
  • Stafford Pond, Tiverton: trout, salmon, and lake trout
  • Watchaug Pond, Charlestown: trout and salmon
  • Willet Pond, East Providence: trout and salmon.

An updated fishing license is required for all anglers 15 and older. DEM officials also said a trout conservation stamp is required for anyone wishing to keep a trout or to fish in a catch-and-release or "fly-fishing only" area.
