Man Dies in Pawtuxet River
A 27-year-old man swimming with friends near the Arkwright bridge went under and didn't surface.

CRANSTON, RI—A 27-year-old man died while swimming in the Pawtuxet River near the Arkwright Bridge near Cranston, Coventry and Scituate.
Members of the Cranston Fire Department and other agencies responded to the scene by 109 Main St. at around 5:30 p.m. for a report of a swimmer who went underwater.
Witnesses said that the man was with friends when he went under and didn't surface.

Police identified the victim as Alexander Higham.
Officials said they were told the swimmer was in the water for about 45 minutes before crews arrived and began a water search. The victim's body was found after about an hour of searching.
