Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Much of RI

Severe thunderstorms bringing rain, wind and intense lightning. Warning affects Providence, Kent and Bristol Counties until 6 p.m.

RHODE ISLAND—If you're out and about, take cover. Severe thunderstorms are powering across northern and central Rhode Island with the potential for damage caused by wind gusts and lightning strikes.

The warning is in effect until 6 p.m.

The warning area includes all of Providence County and northern Bristol County as well as central Kent County.

"Torrential rainfall is occurring with these storms," the Weather serive said. "For your protection, move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building."

Possible impacts include flash flooding, fallen trees and downed power lines as wind gusts could reach 60 mph.
