Three More Charged for Fight at Cranston Carnival, Brings Total to 11

Cranston police have made three more arrests in connection with a fight at a Memorial Day weekend carnival at Mulligan's Island.

CRANSTON, RI—Two Coventry men and a man from West Warwick are the latest people to face charges in connection with a brawl at a carnival in Cranston over Memorial Day weekend that sent a teen girl to the hospital and sparked a viral video showing her assailant punching her in the head with brass knuckles.

Police said the latest arrests come after a "lengthy followup investigation" by Cranston detectives.

Charged were Kyle Arnold, 21, of 17 Beechwood St., Coventry, who was charged with three counts of simple assault and disorderly conduct; Adonis Gonzalez-Shannon, 21, of 42 John St., West Warwick, charged with disorderly conduct; and Stephen Stabile, 18, of 43 Liena Rose Way, Coventry, also charged with disorderly conduct.

Arnold is free on $2,000 surety bail after his arraignment in Third Division District Court. Both Gonzalez-Shannon and Stabile will be appearing in court soon, police said.

On June 3, Cranston  police arrested eight people in connection with the brawl, video of which showed men, women, boys and girls swarming around each other in a tangle of kicking legs and swinging arms at the carnival on May 28. Upon arrival, police saw that everyone involved had scattered except for one 16-year-old girl smeared in blood with a head injury caused by a blow from 18-year-old Wilson Rivera of Newport. Rivera reportedly was wearing brass knuckles when he delivered the punch to the head.

"The behavior I saw on the videos that captured this incident was deplorable and can only be described as barbaric," said Cranston Police Chief Michael J. Winquist. "This carnival has been held in our City in the past and is known as a family event, enjoyed by many.  It is unfortunate that these individuals acted in a manner that jeopardized the safety of all of those in attendance.  Such conduct will not be tolerated in Cranston and will lead to arrest.  I commend those citizens who assisted our detectives with this investigation, so that those responsible will be held accountable for their actions."
