William Hall Library Begins Extended Hours June 20

The library is the third city library to see extended hours following a 2013 community need survey.

CRANSTON, RI—The William H. Hall Memorial Library in the Edgewood Neighborhood is a vital community asset for the eastern section of the city.

Now, the public will get the chance to spend more time at the library with extended hours beginning June 20.

The library will now open two hours earlier two days a week, starting at 10 a.m. on Monday and Thursdays. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, the library will open at noon. The building is closed on Friday and Sunday. On Saturday, it's open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. The library closes at 8 p.m. all other days.

"A busy library like William Hall is always in need of more open hours," said William Hall Library's Branch Librarian, Adrienne Gallo. “We're looking forward to providing morning hours to our patrons for the first time in over ten years. We know that the additional time will be a most welcome addition to the community.”

Citywide library Director Ed Garcia said that the extended hours fit the library's mission of meeting the community's needs. A survey in 2013 that polled residents revealed that people want Cranston's libraries open more often and for more hours.

“We are on a mission to bring the residents of Cranston the public library service that they want,” said Garcia said.

Last year, the library system extended hours at the Arlington Branch, located at the Cranston Senior Enrichment Center on Cranston Street, also formerly known as the Arlington Reading Room. That extension was based in part to increased traffic at the branch following an extensive renovation.

In January, the Knigthsville Branch's hours were extended as well into two evenings each week.

The William Hall Library is located at 1825 Broad St, Cranston RI 02905. To learn more about Cranston Public Library, visit their website at cranstonlibrary.org.
