Abdul Jabbar Offers NEIT Grads His 15 Pieces Of Advice;

"Enjoy who you are right now and the tremendous accomplishment we are here to celebrate," is just one of them.

East Greenwich's New England Institute of Technology held its 72nd commencement ceremony on Sunday, at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence. More than 1,000 students received Associate in Science, Bachelor of Science, or Master of Science degrees. Basketball legend, author, actor, award-winning film producer and community activist Kareem Abdul-Jabbar delivered the commencement address and was awarded an honorary doctor of humane letters during the ceremony.

While in college, Abdul-Jabbar led the UCLA Bruins to three consecutive NCAA championships and became the only player in NCAA history to be named Most Outstanding Player of the tournament for three consecutive years. Here, he perfected his famous skyhook, a shot that opposing players found impossible to block.

Among his pieces of advice, Abdul-Jabbar said, “Enjoy who you are right now and the tremendous accomplishment we are here to celebrate.”
