Coventry Man In Torn Superman T-Shirt Attacks 2 In Street: Cops

The man in the ripped Superman T-shirt said the other two actually attacked him, according to police.

EAST GREENWICH, RI — A Coventry man in a torn Superman T-shirt attacked two other men on Main Street early Thursday morning, police said..

An officer was dispatched to Main Street near Queen Street shortly before 1:30 a.m. to investigate a report of a fight and met with two men who told him "they were just assaulted by a male wearing a Superman T-shirt" who ran off, heading north on Main, according to an East Greenwich police report.

Soon after, the officer spotted a man "wearing a ripped Superman T-shirt" walking north on Main Street, according to the report, but he had a different version of how the incident unfolded.

The man in the Superman shirt, 49-year-old Mitchell Savard III, contended that "he was attacked by two males on Main Street moments ago," the report said.

Savard explained he had been "visiting a female friend" and after "they parted ways" he walked over to a bench on Main Street "where he was about to call for an Uber to take him home," according to the report.

But before he could call an Uber, a Ford F-350 pulled up and two men emerged from the truck who "approached him in an aggressive manner while he was sitting on the bench," the report said.

Savard told the officer the two men "pushed him and attempted to punch him, but (he) deflected the strikes," according to the report. "Savard stated one of the males fell on his face in front of him, then Savard took off on foot away from the two males."

Savard went on to say he never threw anything at the white F-350 or hit either of the two males.," the report said.

The officer apparently had his doubts, as Savard was arrested on charges of simple assault and/or battery and disorderly conduct, according to the report.
