EAST GREENWICH, RI — A Cranston man was killed in a motorcycle crash Friday night, police said.

John Simeonie, 52, died at an area hospital following the wreck on South County Trail south of Division Street, according to an East Greenwich Police Department report.

Simeonie was operating a motorcycle that collided with an SUV, police said. An officer reported the SUV "sustained significant damage in the area of the front, passenger side tire" and that Simeonie was lying "down on his back in the area of the double yellow line."

An off-duty firefighter rendered aid to Simeonie before officers arrived, police said.

An officer conducted a driving under the influence investigation at the scene of the crash, police said.

"At the conclusion of the tests, it was determined (the driver of the SUV) was not impaired, the police report said.
