Cranston Man Opened Bar Tap And Poured Out Nearly $300 Worth Of Beer: Cops

The Cranston man was "tampering with the beer tap behind the bar" at East Greenwich's Greenwich Hotel, police said.

EAST GREENWICH, RI — An unruly Cranston man slipped behind an East Greenwich bar and let beer flow from a tap for six minutes and 17 seconds, police said.

Officers were called to the Greenwich Hotel shortly before 10:30 p.m. Sunday to investigate a report of an unruly customer who was tampering with the beer tap behind the bar," according to an East Greenwich police report.

When they arrived, the bartender pointed out Doulas M. Loiselle, 44, who was standing behind her, the report said.

The bartender then told officers "she noticed a beer tap was open and beer was flowing out, the report said.

The bartender "shut the tap and continued working her scheduled shift," according to the report. Moments later, (she) noticed the tap to be open again and once again she closed it. (She) contacted her manager ... who has access to the cameras from home. (The manager) contacted (the bartender) and advised that the male wearing a white floral shirt was tampering with the taps.

An officer then spoke to Loiselle, who claimed his name was "Dylan" and stuck with that story until he produced his driver's license from his pocket, despite claiming he had left it in his car, police said.

Loiselle proceeded to inform the officer that his middle name was actually Dylan, according to the report.

The officer then asked what the middle initial "M" on the driver's license stood for but Loiselle "could not give a sufficient answer," the report said.

After he was placed under arrest, Loiselle admitted his middle name was Mathew, police said.

Employing surveillance video, police determined Loiselle "leaves the tap running for about 144 seconds in one video and 233 seconds in the next," the report said.

The bartender informed police "it takes about 9 seconds to poor a beer. The cost is $6.50 per beer which equals to about $272.29 lost," according to the report.

Loiselle was booked on charges of larceny, obstructing an officer in execution of duty and disorderly conduct, the report said.
