Drunken Driver Ran Off After Crash And Hid In Bushes: East Greenwich PD

Officers located the man despite his attempt to hide in the bushes, police said.

EAST GREENWICH, RI — A drunken driver ran off and hid in the bushes after crashing his SUV but officers till caught him, police said.

An officer responding to a crash at the intersection of Division Street and Shippeetown Road was told by a woman that a Honda SUV had "crashed and that a man wearing a black-colored sweatshirt was hiding in the bushes," according to an East Greenwich Police Department report.

The woman went on to say she saw the man in the black sweatshirt "running away into the nearby woods as officers arrived on scene," according to the report.

The officer and a second officer "immediately started running into the woods after" the man in the black sweatshirt, the report said, and they found him "laying down in the bushes near the intersection" of Division and Shippeetown.

The man in the black sweatshirt, 26-year-old Damien Rainone, was charged with driving under the influence, refusal to submit to a chemical test and obstructing a police officer, according to the report.
