East Greenwich Federal Fugitive Apprehended: Cops

The East Greenwich man pleaded guilty in 2022 to a federal charge of conspiracy to manufacture 100 or more marijuana plants.

EAST GREENWICH, RI — An East Greenwich man wanted on a federal warrant was apprehended, police said.

An East Greenwich officer sent to a residence on Division Road near Crickett Circle Thursday morning to investigate a noise complaint involving construction vehicles ran a check on an individual "who is known to reside at the above address," according to a police report.

That individual, 47-year-old Alvin Fang, turned out to have an "active bench warrant. Fang also had multiple federal warrants with full extradition," the report said.

An officer knocked on the door and asked the man who answered if he was "Alvin Fang and he replied, 'Yeah,'" the report said.

The officer then grabbed Fang's left arm and told him he was under arrest, according to the report.

While the officer was escorting Fang to his squad car, Fang "tensed his arms up and tried to pull away from" him, the report said. me.

Fang continued to aggressively swing his arms in (an) attempt to loosen our grip," according to the report. "Fang was simultaneously screaming to get his son's attention inside the residence."

Fang became "compliant" after he was taken to the ground, according to the report, and was ultimately taken to the police station.

Fang was charged in October 2019 with possessing 1,161 marijuana plants and 56 pounds of processed marijuana. The plants were in Glocester, Providence, West Warwick, Cranston, Warwick and Lincoln, according to the federal charges.

In October 2022, Fang pleaded guilty to conspiracy to manufacture more than 100 marijuana plants and was sentenced to time served and three years parole. He was scheduled to appear for a parole revocation hearing Wednesday.
