East Greenwich 'Stalker' Actually Just Learning To Drive Stick Shift: Cops

The East Greenwich woman who called the law was relieved to learn he was not a stalker, police said.

EAST GREENWICH, RI β€” An East Greenwich woman was relieved to learn a "suspicious auto" her teenage daughter spotted outside their home was merely a father teaching his son to drive a stick shift, police said.

An officer was dispatched to a residence on Bow Street near Downing Street about 5:15 p.m. and met with a woman who said her "daughter observed a new Ford Bronco in front of their residence idling," according to an East Greenwich police report.

"The vehicle would slowly drive forward and come to a stop," according to the report, which said the woman provided the officer with the Bronco's license plate number.

The officer tracked down the owner of the Bronco and learned he had "just purchased the vehicle for his son," the report said.

The father "went on to state that Bow Street and Downing Street have a unique hill and he is teaching his son how to drive the manual transmission," the report said.
