EGHS's DePetro Crowned Miss RI Outstanding Teen

NEWPORT, RI—This year's Miss Rhode Island Outstanding Teen is none other than East Greenwich's Kate DePetro, 16, a student at East Greenwich High School.

DePetro was crowned after performing a rendition of "Popular" from the acclaimed theatrical production "Wicked."

DePetro's platform was "Make a Difference, Make it Positive, Make it Today!" She will go on to represent the state at the Miss America's Outstanding Teen Pageant this August in Orlando after edging out five other contestants for the crown at a sold-out event at the Casino Theater in Newport on Sunday night.

Shruti Nagarajan, 24, was crowned Miss Rhode Island 2016 after edging out 19 other contestants for the coveted crown.

A student at Brown University, Nagarajan's talent is Bollywood fusion dance and her platform is "University, was crowned Miss Rhode Island 2016. Her talent is Bollywood fusion dance and her platform is "Upward Mobility: College Access for Low Income and Minority Students."

She will go on to represent the state at the Miss America Pageant this September in Atlantic City.

Winners and runners-up took home thousands of dollars in scholarship money.
