Five Things: Fire District Meeting Cancelled

East Greenwich Fire District meeting CANCELLED: The meeting was cancelled to due a lack of a quorum. This could be the last time the EG Fire Commissioners meet officially, since the bill to abolish the fire district and establish a town fire department awaits Gov. Chafee’s signature. 7 p.m. at Town Hall.

AARP Safe Driving Class signups: East Greenwich Senior Services is offering an AARP Driver Safety Class at Swift Community Center next Wednesday, May 22, at 1 p.m. The instructor is our own Carl Hoyer. The only trick is you need to sign up by tomorrow.

Goddard Park Farmers Market: It’s back! Actually, it started up last Friday (yes, EG Patch was asleep at the wheel on that one … sorry!). From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. off Ives Road (there will be a large sign).

Avenger Action: Boys Track meet at 2 p.m. On Saturday, Boys JV Baseball against NKHS at 10:30 a.m. You can follow all the Avenger action at the EG Booster Club website here.

 

Taste of the Town: The East Greenwich Rotary's annual event offers great food and drink for a good cause! This year, the money will benefit will go toward making Janice Wray's family home more accessible. You can read about Janice here and here. 

On Saturday …

Tom Cavanagh 5K: The Inaugural Thomas Cavanagh Scholarship Run will take place on Saturday May 18.The 5k Run/Walk will support the Thomas G. Cavanagh Scholarship Fund at Our Lady of Mercy School. Tom was a former student and parishioner of OLM and his family has founded a scholarship in his memory – the run starts at OLM at 9 a.m. Click here for more information and to register.

Meadowbrook Farms Spring Carnival: Stop by the carnival at Meadowbrook Farms before or after your sports activities between noon and 4 p.m. For $5 per person or $20 per family, you get a wipeout obstacle course, inflatable fun, face painting, crafts, games, music, 1 cake-walk ticket and 1 dunk-tank throw. Food will be for sale too.

Belly to Belly Run: There are two options this year, to do the traditional hotdog-and-beer rendition or to just run a 5K. Click here for all the details.

Rod Stewart at the Odeum: OK, not exactly Rod Stewart, but someone who looks and sounds remarkably like Rod Stewart. Rick Larrimore and Blondes Have More Fun present the ultimate tribute to soccer-and-woman-loving English crooner. Tickets $24. 7 p.m.
