Five Things: Book Sale, Plant Sale
Your guide for life in East Greenwich today, May 11.

Library’s Annual Book Sale: Stock up for summer reading today at the Friends of the East Greenwich Free Library annual used book sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The bargains at great! While you are shopping for great used books, you can also check out the East Greenwich Art Club’s Little Picture Show at the Library. It’s there all month, available during regular library hours.
Plant Sale: The Cindy Wood Garden Club will hold its annual plant sale on Saturday in front of the American Legion Hall at 1016 Main Street. The vigorous annuals and perennials are culled from members' gardens and include bulbs, seed packets, gardening items and books – all at budget prices. Mother's Day arrangements in baskets, planters and vases will be on sale for up to $12. A unique item this year is succulents planted in cigar boxes to hang on walls. The sale will run from 9 a.m. to noon and the funds raised will be used for community beautification projects in East Greenwich and North Kingstown.

Unified Basketball State Championship: The EGHS Unified Basketball team has made it to the state championship, where they will meet Bishop Hendricken at Bishop Hendricken today 10:45 a.m. Unified teams are a combination of athletes with disabilities and peer “partner” athletes. Go Avengers!
Seedling Sale: Start your culinary garden this spring with Rhode Island Certified Organic vegetable, fruit, and herb seedlings featured at Casey Farm's plant sale. Other items for sale include Vermont maple syrup, coffee, and fresh bakery items. Tours of the museum and grounds and children’s activities will be offered. Casey Farm, 2325 Boston Neck Road, Saunderstown, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Sheep Shearing at Watson Farm: Take the family to Sheep Shearing Day at Historic New England’s Watson Farm in Jamestown. The event is from noon to 4 p.m. and shearing will take place continuously as expert shearers remove the wool from the farm flock. In addition, spinners and weavers from the Rhode Island Spinners Guild will be on hand to demonstrate how wool is made into yarn and cloth. Visitors are welcome to hike the scenic farm trails which take you down to Narragansett Bay. Along the way you may visit with the herd of Red Devon cattle and see their newborn calves. The Watson Farm is located at 455 North Main Road in Jamestown. Admission is $10 per car. The event is outdoors and rain or shine.
Revolutionary battle reenactment: Reenactors and living historians recreate an authentic military encampment and battle on the grounds of Spell Hall the historic General Nathanael Greene Homestead in Coventry, home of George Washington’s most trusted general. See camp life, musket and cannon demonstrations, tour General Greene's 1770 Homestead and watch Continental Troops defend Spell Hall from a British raiding party. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. 50 Taft St., Coventry.
