Five Things: Book Sale Preview, EGHS Softball

Sneak Peak & Snack Book Sale: Be among the first to browse the books at the Wine and Cheese Sneak Peek Preview Party tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. (adults only). Admission is open to Friends of East Greenwich Free Library only (annual membership is $10 for individuals and $20 for families, so consider joining tonight!). Enjoy a glass of wine, mingle with other book enthusiasts, and enjoy an early-bird opportunity to buy your favorite books. For more information, call 884-9510 or click here. Small Art Show at the Library: While you are shopping for great used books, you can also check out the East Greenwich Art Club’s Little Picture Show at the East Greenwich Free Library. It’s there all month, available during regular library hours.

Avenger Home Action: Girls Softball against Coventry at 3:30 p.m., Boys Volleyball against Tolman, JV at 5 p.m. and Varsity at 6:30. You can follow all the Avenger action at the EG Booster Club website here.
Lobster Roll time: Every spring, Westminster Unitarian Church goes into lobster mode, making hundreds of lobster rolls. The 22nd Annual Lobster Roll Day is Friday, May 17, but NOW is the time to place your order. For $9.50, you get succulent lobster mixed with a little mayo, presented on a buttered roll, with a side of potato chips. As always, there are no fillers. Order 6+ rolls and get free delivery in East and West Greenwich, Warwick, Cranston, North and South Kingstown, Coventry, West Warwick, Exeter and Narragansett. There is a $5 delivery charge outside the free delivery area. Orders may also be picked up by 12:30 p.m. at Westminster. Orders of fewer than 6 rolls are pick-up only. On Saturday …
Plant Sale: The Cindy Wood Garden Club will hold its annual plant sale on Saturday in front of the American Legion Hall at 1016 Main Street. The vigorous annuals and perennials are culled from members' gardens and include bulbs, seed packets, gardening items and books – all at budget prices. Mother's Day arrangements in baskets, planters and vases will be on sale for up to $12. A unique item this year is succulents planted in cigar boxes to hang on walls. The sale will run from 9 a.m. to noon and the funds raised will be used for community beautification projects in East Greenwich and North Kingstown.
Sheep Shearing at Watson Farm: Take the family to Sheep Shearing Day at Historic New England’s Watson Farm in Jamestown. The event is from noon to 4 p.m. and shearing will take place continuously as expert shearers remove the wool from the farm flock. In addition, spinners and weavers from the Rhode Island Spinners Guild will be on hand to demonstrate how wool is made into yarn and cloth. Visitors are welcome to hike the scenic farm trails which take you down to Narragansett Bay. Along the way you may visit with the herd of Red Devon cattle and see their newborn calves. The Watson Farm is located at 455 North Main Road in Jamestown. Admission is $10 per car. The event is outdoors and rain or shine.
Nathanael Greene Homestead Revolutionary battle reenactment: Reenactors and living historians recreate an authentic military encampment and battle on the grounds of Spell Hall the historic General Nathanael Greene Homestead, home of George Washington’s most trusted general. See camp life, musket and cannon demonstrations, tour General Greene's 1770 Homestead and watch Continental Troops defend Spell Hall from a British raiding party. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
