Five Things: Community Meal, Preservation Society

Community Dinner: Christ Community Kitchen takes place tonight at St. Luke's Church. It's a community meal open to anyone interested in good food and fellowship. No religious affiliation is required. The meal is free, donations are accepted. 5 p.m.

East Greenwich Historic Preservation Society meeting: At tonight’s meeting, two significant anniversaries will be celebrated – the town's 335th birthday and the 45th anniversary of the Preservation Society's founding in 1966. Long-term residents will share their memories of what East Greenwich was like in the 1950s and 1960s. It's open-mike night – come and reminisce with us. Also, Sarah Hudson, project assistant for "Protecting our Past," will talk about her studies in Institutional History at RIC where she is a candidate for a degree in Public History. Open Jam Night: The Greenwich Hotel’s Open Jam session takes place every Monday night. All musicians are welcome and even non-musicians with rhythm can join in on the percussion instruments. This is Open Mic with a twist. It is a more relaxed format. You are encouraged to jump in and start playing. This makes for an interesting and unique night of music. A full PA set up with mics, cords, bass amp, electronic drum kit, bongos, djembe and other percussion instruments are available.

Turkey Trot is Saturday! The second annual EG Hill and Harbour Turkey Trot happens Saturday. Work off the holiday meal with friends and family. It’s a fully sanctioned and certified 5K race in downtown EG. The main event starts at 9 a.m. with a 1-mile fun run at 8:30. Other activities will include crafts, music, and food.
