Five Things: Community Meal, 'Vintage Postcards' Book Reception

'Vintage Postcards' book reception: The East Greenwich Historic Preservation Society introduces its latest publication, "Vintage Postcards of East Greenwich, R.I.," today from 3:30 to 5:30 pm. at the East Greenwich Free Library, 82 Peirce St. Light refreshments will be served. The 186-page, softcover book is a stroll down memory lane, filled with colored postcards dating from the early 20th century, of the Hill and Harbor districts, Main Street, the mills, schools and churchs of our town. The book will be for sale at the reception for $24.99 or it can be ordered from the Society by calling 401-826-0178. It is also available at Symposium Books.

Community meal: Once a month, Christ Community Kitchen takes place at St. Luke's Church (usually, but not always, the last Monday of the month). It's a community meal open to anyone interested in good food and fellowship. No religious affiliation is required – all are welcome. St. Luke's and EG United Methodist Church share in the cooking and serving duties, typically rotating every other month. Dinner tonight will be pork loin roast, mashed potatoes, appetizers, salad, Panera bread and homemade desserts, from 5 to 6 p.m.

Weather: Tut, tut, it looks like rain … today and at least part of tomorrow. No snow!

EG Food Cupboard needs donations: People are hungry all year round, Chris and Steve Bartlett of the Food Cupboard remind us. Items especially needed are jars of jelly, baked beans, canned fruit, tuna, peanut butter, and cereals. The food cupboard is housed at St. Luke’s Church. You can leave food there during normal business hours.
