Five Things: Winter Market, Ice Skating
Your guide for life in East Greenwich today, Jan. 5.

Winter Farmers Market: The Coastal Growers Winter Farmers Market is an antidote to winter. You can buy fresh vegetables, naturally raised chicken and beef, and special products. There's usually live music and Tallulah's Taco Truck sets up shop too. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lafayette Mills in Wickford.
Story Hour at Symposium Books: Children (and their adults) are invited to Story Hour at Symposium Books . Every week they pick a new story and read it to the kids with animal crackers and fun. Favorite stories are "No Matter What" and "Jungle Explorer." Come early and help pick the story, and better yet, there is a 10 percent additional discount on everything in the store during story hour! 11:30 a.m.
Outdoor Ice Skating: The town’s two rinks are open for skating – the plus from all the recent cold weather. One rink, pictured here, is downtown, at the basketball courts at the bottom of Eldredge Field. The other is at Shovlin Park, off Middle Road. You must bring your own skates and there’s no zamboni, but it’s free and glorious to be able to skate outdoors! Thanks, Rec Department! Â
Christmas Tree disposal starts Monday: The Town of East Greenwich will be picking up Christmas Trees (stripped of decorations and NOT in plastic bags) the week of Jan. 7, on your regular trash pickup day.
Blog for Patch: Whether you have things to say or questions to last, use the blog platform at Patch to do it. It’s not hard and there are not requirements – write when you want for as much as you want. Here’s the link to get started: http://eastgreenwich.patch.com/blog/apply.
