Five Things: Epiphany, Messiah Sing, Trees

Messiah sing-(or listen)-along: The fourth-annual benefit Messiah-sing at Good Shepherd will be led by Judith Conrad, an Early Music keyboard specialist and organist. Admission is free, but donations are requested as proceeds will benefit Welcome House, the Wakefield homeless shelter. All are invited to a soup supper following the concert. Bring your own Messiah score if you have one. Musicians are welcome but they should contact Conrad in advance through the church. 

Outdoor Ice Skating: The town’s two rinks are open for skating – the plus from all the recent cold weather. One rink, pictured here, is downtown, at the basketball courts at the bottom of Eldredge Field. The other is at Shovlin Park, off Middle Road. You must bring your own skates and there’s no zamboni, but it’s free and glorious to be able to skate outdoors! With the newly warmer temperatures, it’s better to skate early or late in the day.

Epiphany (or "Christmas is really over after today"): In most Christian churches, today marks the day the Three Kings arrive to meet the baby Jesus and the official end of the Christmas season. 

Christmas Tree disposal starts tomorrow: The Town of East Greenwich will be picking up Christmas Trees (stripped of decorations and NOT in plastic bags) the week of Jan. 7, on your regular trash pickup day.

Winter Rec Program signup is now: The East Greenwich Parks & Recreation Department has a full slate of programs for the winter and spring months. Registration began in December, but many programs are still open. Registration forms and program information is available on the Town web site. Flyers are also available at the office, the Town Hall and the EG Free Library.
