Five Things: May Fair, Purple Stride & Best Buddy Walks, May Breakfast

GBSA May Breakfast & Open House: Have breakfast on the water at one of the most beautiful spots in EG. The public is invited for a delicious breakfast featuring omelette stations, crepes, pancakes, scrambled eggs, and all the fixings (baked goods, coffee, juice, fruit, etc). Tickets are only $10 for adults / $5 for children. Proceeds of the May breakfast support Greenwich Bay Sailing Association, a nonprofit community sailing program. You’ll be able to learn about GBSA and their sailing programs for kids and adults too. From 8 a.m. to noon at the East Greenwich Yacht Club, 10 Water St.

PurpleStride Walk: Pancreatic cancer has a 6 percent survival rate. You can help change this. Join the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and thousands of participants for PurpleStride Rhode Island’s Awareness walk and run at Goddard Park. May Fair! If you have younger children, you don’t want to miss this wonderful annual spring event. There are fun games, pony rides, a cake walk, a silent auction, play spaces, and a bunny-petting area. The theme this year is “Once Upon A Time … “ Admission is free; tickets are 50 cents a piece. The proceeds benefit the Barbara Tufts Cooperative Preschool. At Academy Field (and Swift Community Center), rain or shine, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Best Buddies R.I. Friendship Walk: Join the disability movement and come out to enjoy a great morning with new and old friends, celebrating friendship!  Garden City Shopping Plaza in Cranston will be the place to walk, dance, relax and raise money to support Best Buddies RI statewide programing to support inclusion of persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities in our local schools and communities. Registration starts at 8:45 a.m. At Garden City.

Pasta Dinner: Pasta Dinner for London Bridge Learning Center, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the East Greenwich Fireman's Hall, at 80 Queen St. London Bridge is a non-profit child-care center. The proceeds will be dedicated to the purchase of a new sign for our center! Price: $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and children under 10.

Lobster Roll time: Every spring, Westminster Unitarian Church goes into lobster mode, making hundreds of lobster rolls. The 22nd Annual Lobster Roll Day is next Friday, May 17, but NOW is the time to place your order. For $9.50, you get succulent lobster mixed with a little mayo, presented on a buttered roll, with a side of potato chips. As always, there are no fillers. Order 6+ rolls and get free delivery in East and West Greenwich, Warwick, Cranston, North and South Kingstown, Coventry, West Warwick, Exeter and Narragansett. There is a $5 delivery charge outside the free delivery area. Orders may also be picked up by 12:30 p.m. at Westminster. Orders of fewer than 6 rolls are pick-up only.
