Five+ Things: Newtown Vigil, Main Street Stroll, Fire District Meeting

Fire District meeting: On the Fire District Commissioners’ agenda is discussion of the Nov. 6 vote in favor of merging the district with the town, and results of a complaint against the district to the Board of Election. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers at Town Hall.

Final Main Street Holiday Stroll: That’s right, the last stroll of the season! Tonight’s the night to pick up those items you still need before the long holiday weekend begins. From 5 to 8 p.m.

Community Gathering and Vigil: An opportunity to come together to celebrate our children, our community and each other and to help all of us to feel safe, connected and supported during a time of sadness, yet a season of joy. There will be music, a moment of silence, speakers including Bob Houghtaling and pediatrician Pat Flanagan, and a candle lighting. All are welcome. Sponsored by Citizens Who Care, the Town of East Greenwich, EG Public Schools, and Youth-to-Youth. From 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the auditorium at St. Luke’s Church.

Songs of Christmas: Everyone is invited to the "Twelfth Annual Songs of Christmas," performed by the students of Phoebe Madden and accompanied by Philip Martorella,  at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 124 Division Street. It is free and starts at 7 p.m. Come and hear 24 beautiful young voices heralding hope and peace.

Author Marc J. Seifer at Symposium Books: The Rhode Island author will be at Symposium Books on Main Street from  6 to 8 p.m. tonight, to coincide with the Holiday Stroll. Publishers Weekly said Seifer's vivid, revelatory, exhaustively researched biography rescues pioneer inventor Nikola Tesla from cult status and restores him to his rightful place as a principal architect of the modern age.

Community Photo Op For Newtown this Sunday! East Greenwich is coming together to show its support for Newtown, Conn., with a giant community photo op this Sunday, Dec. 23, at noon at EGHS's Carcieri Field. Bring family, friends and neighbors. This is an opportunity to express our solidarity with the people of Newtown and  to bolster our own sense of community at the same time.
