Five Things: Photo Op For Newtown, Community Xmas Dinner

Your guide for life in East Greenwich today, Dec. 23.

Photo Op For Newtown: East Greenwich is coming together to show its support for Newtown, Conn., with a giant community photo op on Sunday, Dec. 23, at noon at EGHS's Carcieri Field. Bring family, friends and neighbors. This is an opportunity to express our solidarity with the people of Newtown and  to bolster our own sense of community at the same time. Read more about the project here: http://patch.com/A-0yyG.

Community Christmas Dinner: Christ Church will be hosting a Christmas Dinner tonight and you are invited! Come for a free ham dinner with all the fixings. Enjoy fellowship and entertainment while you eat. At Cole Middle School starting at 5 to 6:30 p.m.

Adopt-A-Pet Open House: Animals are available for viewing and adoption today with the assistance of a dedicated East Greenwich Animal Protection League member. The open house takes place at Greenwich Bay Animal Hospital from 10:30 to 1 p.m. Individual appointments are also available.

And ...

Vote for Stanley! Our own Stanley Marion’s fantastic Christmas lights display at his mother’s house on Wanton Shippee is up for the grand prize in Patch’s Deck the House Contest. The winner earns $100,000 for the town’s school district. That could be East Greenwich. To vote, click here. You can vote once every 24 hours – please do!

EG Food Cupboard needs donations: People are hungry all year round, Chris and Steve Bartlett of the Food Cupboard remind us. Items especially needed are jars of jelly, baked beans, canned fruit, tuna, peanut butter, and cereals. The food cupboard is housed at St. Luke’s Church. You can leave food there during normal business hours.
