Five+ Things: Starry Night Party, Chinese Dance

Your guide for life in East Greenwich today, Dec. 14.


Starry Night Party! Students in the EGHS physics classes will be hosting a “Star Party” on the fields next to the high school. Activities will include viewing objects through our telescopes, a Star Walk tour on the iPad, and activities for children. We will be featuring our 10-inch Dobsonian Reflector and 11-Inch CPC Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes purchased through the EGEF. The Geminids Meteor shower will be visible late in the evening. Hot cocoa will be available. Dress warmly and bring a flashlight. 7 to 9 p.m.

Arms Wide Open yoga event: Every year, Focus Yoga adopts two families for the holidays. Join Tobi for a donation only, all levels class to help raise money to purchase gifts for them. All are welcome, any amount will do. Cash donations and gift cards accepted. "Open yourself up, to give and receive.” From 6 to 7:15 p.m.

Teen Center: The Teen Center has provided a great place to hang out on Friday evenings for decades now. They meet at the gym at Eldredge School but you don’t have to play basketball to enjoy the camraderie. From 6 to 8 p.m.

There's lots going on Saturday ... 

Taipei Sublime: Drummers, dancers, and other performers from Taiwan will present a cultural extravaganza FREE on Saturday, Dec. 15, at Cole Middle School. This is very special event is made possible by the Town of East Greenwich, EG Free Library, and the Taipei Economic and Cultural office in Boston. 2 p.m.

Living Nativity at EGUMC: A free Living Nativity Tour will take place during the open house, with live reenactment of the Christmas story by members of the church, both young and old. (There might even be a few friendly four-legged creatures on the premises.) The Living Nativity Tour will feature scenes from the town of Bethlehem on the night of Christ’s birth. Visitors will be guided through the walking tour, which will be lit by candlelight and torches. The guides will be members of our church, who will narrate the story as the tour progresses. All are welcome. From 5 to 7 p.m.

Stone Ridge Candlelight Tour: The annual luminaria has been happening for more than 25 years, put on by the Stone Ridge Neighborhood Association. Residents line their curbs, driveways, even walkways with paper bag laterns. People from all over come to Stone Ridge to slowly drive the streets with headlights dimmed to take in the festive beauty of that one night. From 5 to 9 p.m.
