Story Hour at Symposium Books: Children (and their adults) are invited to Story Hour at Symposium Books . Every week they pick a new story and read it to the kids with animal crackers and fun. Favorite stories are "No Matter What" and "Jungle Explorer." Come early and help pick the story, and better yet, there is a 10 percent additional discount on everything in the store during story hour! 11:30 a.m.
Coastal Growers Winter Farmers Market: The Winter Farmers Market in North Kingstown features many vendors from the EG Farmers Market as well as some others. Miss your Tallulah’s Tacos? You can pick some up at the winter market! You can also pick up produce, meat, baked goods and artisan goods. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lafayette Mill at 650 Ten Rod Road in North Kingstown.
On Sunday … Golden Gates Family Concert: East Greenwich United Methodist Church hosts The Golden Gates Company for a spectacular program of Russian culture and music. The group will be performing traditional dances from Russia and Ukraine, thrilling audiences with their skillful virtuosity, colorful costumes, syncopation of footwork, and gymnastic leaping of foot-stomping ferocity. The concert is free, but donations to benefit Russian children are welcome. There will be a potluck at 1 p.m. followed by the performance for all ages at 2 p.m. Traditional Russian souvenirs will be available for sale. www.russianfolk.com
On Monday … "Stressed to the Max!" Parents are invited to listen and learn from healthcare professionals offering insights on student stress, identifying problem behaviors and offering solutions for students and parents to survive in today's world of enormous distractions and pressures. The forum consists of: John Femino, M.D., and founder of Meadows Edge Recovery Center in N.K. specializing in addiction issues and substance abuse, Jessica Kaplan, M.S.W., clinical social worker specializing in mood disorders and child/adolescent issues and Nina Mackta, M.S.W., Director of Strategic Mentoring Group in E.G. with 30 years’ experience working with children and families. In the auditorium at St. Luke’s Church at 6:30 p.m.
On Tuesday … Community Flu Shot Clinic: If you have not gotten a flu shot yet, there will be a Community Flu Shot Clinic on Tuesday, Jan. 15, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cole Middle School. Anyone 6 months or older can get the flu shot. In addition the pneumonia and Tdap vaccines will be available. There is no out-of-pocket expense. If you have insurance, bring your card.
