Man Holds Up Cashier At Shell On Route 2 At Frenchtown

Police are calling the incident, which took place at around 5 a.m. Monday, a "strong-arm robbery."

A cashier at the East Side Food Mart Shell at 2563 South County Trail was held up at around 5 a.m. Monday, police report.

The suspect walked into the store and handed the cashier a note that demanded cash, according to Det. Lieutenant Jay Fague. "He did not speak a word. He was in and out in a couple of minutes."

Fague called it a strong-arm robbery – no weapon was shown but the suspect had a hand in one of his pockets as if armed.

The person was so covered that it wasn't completely clear it was a man, although the cashier said she thought so based on the suspect's eyes. Police are describing the suspect as "an unknown male."

"He was covered in an oversized hooded sweatshirt," Fague said, with only a hand and part of the face showing.

Fague said the man got away with an undisclosed amount of cash. He was last seen on foot going in the direction of Frenchtown Road.

He said it was not clear whether or not the man parked somewhere and walked to the mini-mart.

The investigation is continuing.
