Monday Essentials: Great Graffiti Contest, Final Thursday Concert

EG Farmers Market: Swing by Academy Field this afternoon and pick up prepared foods (Middle Eastern delights from the Deli or pizza from Bravo), items to grill (seafood from Matunuck Oysters, meats from Pat’s Pastured), and lots of fresh vegetables, as well as sweets baked in someone else’s oven! It’s hot-weather fare made easy. From 3 to 6 p.m.

Final Thursday Concert: Come on down to Academy Field, located next to the Swift Community Center, for the Summer Concert Series sponsored by the EG Parks & Rec. This week, the Moldy Suitcases will be performing jazz. All ages are welcome to attend. Bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on. In case of rain the concert will be take place in the Swift Gym.

Great Graffiti Contest: EG Housing Authority’s annual event will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. EGHA provides the tools (paint, chalk, masks & gloves) – you provide the creativity and fun. All ages are welcome to participate. Spray paint will be issued to kids 11 years old and up; children under 11 will receive chalk & finger paints. Participants may also bring their own supplies. There will also be a lip synch/dance contest too! Please provide us with the song you will be performing a week in advance, so we can forward your selection to the DJ. Judging will be done by participants, supporters and spectators. Prizes will be awarded in all categories. Pre-registration is recommended, but not required. EG Library Friends seek volunteer coordinator: The Friends of the East Greenwich Free Library are looking for a volunteer coordinator. The duties of this volunteer position include planning, organizing, and directing volunteer efforts. Benefits of the position include being happy, productive, recognized, and valued! Lifeguard certification testing: The Department of Environmental Management's Division of Parks and Recreation will administer surf lifeguard certification tests, starting Monday, to certify lifeguards for the year 2014. Surf tests will be given daily from Monday, August 5, through Friday, August 9, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Scarborough State Beach in Narragansett. (Non-surf tests will be given daily from Tuesday, August 13, through Friday, August 16, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Prosser Grove Picnic area in Burlingame State Park in Charlestown.) No appointment is necessary. For those who pass, there is a $10 fee for the 2014 state certification card.
