Narragansett Woman Charged with DUI After East Greenwich Crash
Police said the woman, 34, claimed she swerved to avoid an animal in the road but evidence suggested she drove through a stop sign.
EAST GREENWICH, RI—A 34-year-old Narragansett woman was charged with driving under the influence on Wednesday after she allegedly lost control of her car on Love Lane and crashed into a telephone pole.
According to police, Kathryn Zuromski, 34, of 1124D Succotash Road, Narragansett, was not hurt after the crash but she failed a field sobriety test and later registered a .088 blood alcohol reading in a preliminary breath test.
Police said they were dispatched to the area of 250 Division Road at around 1:29 a.m. on March 16 and came upon the crash scene. Zuromski's car had front end damage and an initial assessment of the scene by police suggested that she drove through the intersection at Love Lane before crashing into the pole.

Zuromski told police that she saw an animal and swerved, causing her to lose control but the reporting officer said that it seemed hard to believe because of the extent of the damage to her car and the fact that her vehicle was about 10- to 15-feet from a stop sign. That implied she drove through the intersection without stopping, according to the police report.
Police said Zuromski said she did not need medical assistance. After police detected signs of intoxication, Zuromski was asked to complete a field sobriety test but failed. She told police that she had a glass of wine at a friend's house before getting behind the wheel, according to the report.

Zuromski was taken into custody without incident and later released with summons to appear in court on March 25 for arraignment.
